Location
West End has a long history as home to artists and a workplace of the rag trade. Its large student population and proximity to Brisbane's galleries and theatres ensures those with a creative bent feel right at home. Culturally diverse with a proud migrant population, more than a third of locals were born overseas.
An inner city rarity, more than half the suburb's dwellings are houses - as opposed to units. Backyards are filled with vegie patches, chicken coops and rainwater tanks, and they were here long before the latest drought!
Wander through the backstreets and you'll see house after house still owned by matriarchs of those 'new Australian' families from our post war population surge. Of course their generation's aging will soon see another shift in West End's character.
